Background

The Designer Maker West Midlands Forum was the set up in 2004. The catalyst to setting up the forum and support organisation known as Designer Maker West Midlands (DMWM) was the opportunity created by Advantage West Midlands (AWM) to communicate directly with industry through the industry fora.

Each forum relates directly to the Cluster Opportunity Group (COG) for Lifestyle and Interiors, which is also made up of representatives from industry as well as relevant organisations such as Business Link, Higher Education and the Learning Skills Council. The Lifestyle and Interiors COG is responsible for the economic development of design led manufacturing sector, including crafts and designer makers.

In 2008 DMWM became an independent not for profit organisation and following on from this in April 2009 became an Arts Council Regularly Funded Organisation.

DMWM still remains a member of the Lifestyle and Interiors COG, working with Advantage West Midlands and Arts Council to support the sector.
