Successful DMWM Seminar ‘Meet the professionals’ held in October 

On Tuesday 12 October 2010 DMWM ran a very succesful event aimed at recent graduates and new makers in the early stages of setting up their practices.

 

Three established makers gave presentations full of practical advice, followed by question and answer sessions.

 

Jane Moore - How to approach galleries and shops

Jeweller Jane Moore drew on her extensive experience as an established maker and gallery owner to give advice on how best to present yourself to galleries, including what information to send, researching and targeting appropriate outlets, what to do and what not to do.

Sarah Thirlwell - Press and promotion

Wood turner Sarah Thirlwell discussed how to promote your work and gain national press coverage, including tips on writing a good press release, how to deal with the press and the importance of good quality images.

Amy Twigger Holroyd - Alternative selling events

Knitwear designer Amy Twigger Holroyd, of the company Keep & Share, talked about the benefits of alternative selling events including pop up shops, travelling stores, festivals, website sales and open studio events.

The maker talks were followed by brief presentations from creative regional organisations including, DMWM, Bilston Craft Gallery, Craftspace, Hereford Contemporary Craft Fair, Design Gap and the Jewellery Industry Innovation Centre.
